Back in the water :)

The Fistful boat went back in the water today… we’re glad to be back home in Pirate’s Cove and VERY thankful we all made it through Irene!  Our thoughts are with all our friends and neighbors that got hit alot worse than we did and the whole gang on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands – you guys are tough.   Things are getting back to normal and days are booking up to get out there – time to go fishing!!

Hurricane Irene…bye bye :)

The Fistful boat is thankfully safe and sound… as are many of our fellow charter fleet friends.  We are all fortunate to have dodged a big bullet with this one… hurricanes are part of life on the water but never a welcomed part and always nerve racking!  The last several days have been filled with preparation for the storm, hauling out, getting ready, plus lots of nail biting followed by a huge sigh of relief and now putting all the pieces back together.  We are close to getting back in the water – tons of clean up and debris removal out of the canals and creeks that feed into the boat yards are part of the deal and a big thank you to everyone that has been and is working so hard to keep our livelihood afloat.  The marine industry is a very  important part of the Outer Banks and we are thankful to be a part of such a fantastic group of people… hard working and always with a positive attitude!  Our thoughts are with our neighbors that suffered alot more damage than we did and we are all fortunate that this thing didn’t do what it was forecasted to do.  The charter boats will be back in full swing in the next day or two… fishing is always awesome after these storms so don’t hesitate to get back out there!  We will be up and running as soon as the creek is clear to get out… give us a call and take a break from the crazy aftermath – let’s go fishing!

Thanks everybody for keeping her safe 🙂

The line up... ready to get back in the water 🙂

August 21

You never know what the water conditions and temps are going to do… we try very hard to let everybody know that half-day nearshore trips are targeting the smaller species such as bluefish and spanish mackerel.   We just do not have enough time to get you to where the gulf stream species live…. please do not expect to find the type of fish that typically require an all-day, go to the gulf stream, 30 to 50 mile adventure to bring home….. and then you have a day like today! Pip… you are one lucky b…. Limit of bailer dolphin on the beach plus a nice gaffer bite – all on a 4 1/2 hour NEARSHORE trip… if only this would happen every day!!  Thank you guys so much for an awesome trip and hope everybody didn’t hurt too bad the next am!!

August 19

The water pushed out and we’re back to the bluefish… great nearshore fishing continues! Thanks everybody for a great trip!

August 18

Our three-quarter group today got to experience something that rarely happens… dolphin on the beach!  The weather couldn’t have been nicer for these folks and the fishing was awesome!! Gaffer dolphin within site of the beach? Days like today are wonderful and spoil us rotten! Several nice fish right along.. we pulled a few off after these guys got to reel and get a feel for what they were fighting… they got the hang of it quick and rapidly put plenty of meat in the box… Pretty work everybody!! It was great to meet you all and hope we get to see you again!! Thanks for a fantastic day!

Pirate’s Cove Tournament Week

Don’t forget this week is the 28th Annual Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament…this tournament attracts anglers from all over the world and produced the NC State Record Blue Marlin just 3 year’s ago weighing in at 1228.5 lbs!  This is always an extra exciting week at the Cove and you don’t have to be in the Tournament to join in the fun… The week kicks off with a boat decorating contest this Saturday at 6:00 pm as part of the 22nd Alice Kelly Memorial Ladies Tournament, then the girls head offshore to fish and support this great benefit cause on Sunday… The Billfish Tourney starts on Tuesday with boats fishing through Friday.  All the details can be found on the Pirate’s Cove website.  Come down and check out the stats, the standings, the catches, and all the fun when the boats get in each afternoon and give us a call if you just want to get out on the water to enjoy a great half, 3/4, or full day trip with your friends and family… we still have some openings during tournament week and would love to get you on the water!
